Encounters II Heerlen

Show case window project,
Museum Schunck Heerlen

I was invited by curator Femke Lutgerink and former director of the museum Patricia van der Lugt to do a project in my hometown Heerlen, the Netherlands, concerning an installation in a show case window in the city centre. The request was to build a bridge between the exhibition inside, concerning encounters between different cultures, and the local residents.
I decided to create a giant show-box where the passer-by’s were tempted by small peepholes to look inside the white glass box and were confronted with their own closed, reserved community. Through the peepholes they could see their own houses shut off from the outside world by their roll-down shuttered windows, their own anxiety about outsiders being displayed.
